“Word Nerd Wednesday” is a weekly series that uses language to help us think differently and solve old problems in new ways.
The definition isn’t what I thought it would be. It’s not just “characteristic of a neighbor”. It’s characteristic of a *good* neighbor. But are most neighbors (geography) really neighborly (experience) these days?
In 2018 Pew Research found only 26% of Americans knew most or all of their neighbors. 57% knew at least some of their neighbors, but social interaction was rare. Of those who actually knew neighbors, 58% *never* got together with them. 28% got together less than once a month (i.e. a few times a year). Source: https://lnkd.in/eZabEn9
I’ve read stories where it took a pandemic and an app to get people who live *in the same building* to talk in more than a passing way. Why do you think that is?
